Single Stroke Vial Filling Machine

Description

Single Stroke Vial Filling Machine is a specialized semi-automatic or automatic pharmaceutical packaging equipment designed primarily for the precise filling of liquid or powder formulations into sterile glass vials used in injectable drug production. It operates on a “single stroke” principle, where the filling mechanism—typically a piston-driven syringe or volumetric pump—delivers the exact volume of product in one continuous linear motion (stroke) per vial, ensuring high accuracy and minimal product waste. This contrasts with multi-stroke systems that might require multiple cycles for larger volumes. These machines are widely used in cleanroom environments to meet cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice) standards, reducing contamination risks and supporting aseptic processing for vaccines, biologics, oncology drugs, and other injectables.

It operates on the single stroke principle, where the filling syringe or piston delivers the exact required volume in one continuous linear motion per vial. This design ensures superior filling accuracy, minimal product wastage, and consistent dosing, making it ideal for small to medium batch production. The machine integrates liquid filling with rubber stoppering in a single unit and is built to meet stringent cGMP standards. It is specially suited for aseptic processing under laminar airflow in cleanroom environments, minimizing the risk of cross-contamination.

Working Principle of Single Stroke Vial Filling Machine

Our Vial Filling Machines comprise of a stainless steel slat conveyor and vials are transferred using this conveyor. Once the vials reach the filling station from the conveyor, the next phase of operation begins. Filling station is equipped with a number of heads for quicker operations. Here precise filling of vials takes place and they are now moved for the stoppering process. This is a very crucial part of the entire process as this ensures the vials remain immaculate and the product inside the vials also remains preserved. Pharmaceutical products must always remain free of external contaminants and other factors. The medicinal value may get compromised otherwise and hence Vial Filling and Capping Machines are indispensable to the pharmaceutical industry.

Applications of Vial Filling Machine

Advantages of Single Stroke Vial Filling Machine

Precision and Efficiency: Single-stroke design ensures consistent dosing without overfilling, reducing rework.

Cost-Effective: Lower upfront cost compared to fully robotic systems, with easy format changes for various vial diameters (e.g., 13 mm or 20 mm).

Hygiene: Stainless steel construction (SS 304/316) and enclosed design minimize cross-contamination.

Key Components of Single Stroke Vial Filling Machine

  • Filling Mechanism: Syringes (often made of SS 316L for corrosion resistance) are mounted on an eccentric block driven by a main gearbox. The stroke length of the piston is adjustable to control fill volume (e.g., from 0.5 ml to 20 ml or more), allowing flexibility for different vial sizes (2 ml to 50 ml). Filling occurs via needles or nozzles that penetrate the vial for bottom-up delivery, minimizing foam and air entrapment.

  • Vial Handling: A star wheel (rotary indexing table) securely holds vials during the filling operation, ensuring precise positioning. Sensors enable a “No Vial-No Fill” function to prevent errors or spills.

  • Integration with Other Processes: Often combined with rubber stoppering and aluminum cap sealing in a monoblock setup. After filling, a vibrating chute feeds rubber stoppers, which are pressed into place by a spring-loaded roller. Capping follows via a single-disc or roll-on mechanism for tamper-evident seals.

  • Speed and Capacity: Typically processes 20–60 vials per minute (depending on model), suitable for small to medium batch production. Higher-speed variants can reach 100+ vials/min with motion-filling nozzles that move synchronously with vials.

  • Safety and Compliance: Designed for sterile areas under laminar airflow, with minimal dead zones for easy cleaning (CIP/SIP compatible). Features include servo-controlled pumps for ±0.5% fill accuracy, inline weight checks, and low-particle generation to comply with EU GMP Annex 1 and FDA regulations.

FAQ for Single Stroke Vial Filling Machine

The machine has a production output of up to 20 vials per minute. It can handle vial sizes from 2ml to 100ml (with compatibility up to 250ml in some configurations) and fill volumes ranging from 2ml to 250ml in a single stroke.

This makes it perfect for flexible small-batch production without requiring multiple machines or frequent changeovers.

The standard filling accuracy is ±1%, depending on the liquid characteristics and vial size. The machine features a “No Vial – No Filling” system to prevent product wastage and ensure consistent dosing.

Higher accuracy (up to ±0.5%) is achievable with optional servo-controlled pumps. All contact parts are made of SS 316L for corrosion resistance and compliance with sterile injectable standards.

Key features include:

  • Compact cGMP-compliant design with small footprint
  • Variable AC frequency drive for speed control
  • Digital vial counter
  • In-feed turntable/unscrambler for automatic vial feeding
  • “No Vial – No Filling” mechanism
  • Easy cleaning and quick format changeover
  • Stainless Steel 316L contact parts and SS 304 framework
  • Optional PLC system with HMI and IQ/OQ documentation

It is designed for operation under laminar airflow to maintain sterility and minimize cross-contamination.

This machine is widely used in the pharmaceutical, biotech, veterinary, and cosmetic industries. It is ideal for filling sterile injectables such as:

  • Vaccines
  • Antibiotics
  • Biologics
  • Suspensions
  • Other liquid formulations

It is especially suitable for R&D labs, pilot-scale production, and small-batch manufacturing where precision, sterility, and cost-effectiveness are critical.
