A Propeller Agitator (also known as a marine propeller agitator or axial flow impeller) is a type of industrial mixer used in tanks and vessels to stir, blend, homogenize, or suspend materials in liquids.
It features a central shaft with an impeller resembling a boat or airplane propeller, typically with 3–4 curved or pitched blades. The blades create strong axial flow (pushing liquid parallel to the shaft, usually downward or upward), with some radial and tangential components for turbulence.

Primary Applications
It excels at handling low-viscosity fluids at high speeds. Common uses include:
-
Homogenization and blending of liquids
-
Heat transfer
-
Solid suspension (preventing particles from settling)
-
Dispersion and emulsification
Industries often apply it in chemical processing, water treatment, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and large-scale mixing tanks.
Advantages
-
High efficiency for axial circulation in large tanks
-
Low power consumption compared to other impellers
-
Effective for shear-sensitive products (gentle mixing options available)
-
Good for creating top-to-bottom turnover in the tank
Limitations
It performs less effectively with high-viscosity fluids (better suited impellers include anchors or turbines) and may require baffles in the tank to prevent vortexing.
