It is a heavy-duty industrial batch mixer designed for thorough kneading, mixing, grinding, and dispersion of high-viscosity, sticky, and semi-solid materials. It is also commonly called a Sigma Mixer, Z-Blade Mixer, or Double-Arm Kneader.
The mixer is available in Stainless Steel 316, Stainless Steel 304, and Mild Steel. Stainless steel surfaces can be polished to a matt or mirror finish as per customer requirements, while mild steel versions receive one coat of red oxide and two coats of epoxy paint.
Tangential ‘Z’-shaped (sigma) kneading blades rotate accurately at different speeds toward each other, transferring product from one end to the other. The action combines bulk movement, stretching, folding, dividing, and recombining, while shearing and tearing against the blades and side walls reduce solid particle size.
In the tangential design, the front blade generally rotates faster than the rear blade, usually in a ratio of 3:2. This design is preferred for higher-viscosity materials such as adhesives, rubber compounds, flush colors, dyes, and pigments.
Models range from ASM-50 (approx. 50 L working / 80 L gross capacity with 5 HP general or 7.5 HP heavy-duty motors) up to ASM-3000 (approx. 3000 L working / 3800 L gross capacity with 100 HP general or 120 HP heavy-duty motors). Power voltage can be adjusted to suit local requirements.
Discharge can be achieved by hand-wheel operated (manual) or hydraulic operated (automatic) systems, by tilting the container, through bottom valves, or by means of an extrusion screw beside the container.
Yes. A jacket for heating or cooling applications can be fitted, complete with mineral wool insulation and cladding. Optional blade cooling arrangements are also available for temperature-sensitive formulations.
PTFE shaft sealing is provided for food-grade compatibility. A minimum gap between the trough inner shell and the blades helps prevent product sticking, supporting clean operation.
