A Double Z Blade Kneader is a heavy-duty industrial mixing machine designed for intensive kneading and blending of high-viscosity materials. It is also commonly known as a Sigma Mixer, Double Arm Mixer, or Z Blade Mixer.
It uses two counter-rotating Z-shaped (sigma) blades mounted in a W-shaped trough. The blades operate at differential speeds in opposite directions, creating powerful shearing, folding, stretching, and recombining actions that break down agglomerates and produce highly uniform mixtures.
The machine is available in Stainless Steel 316, Stainless Steel 304, and Mild Steel. Stainless steel versions can be finished to matt or mirror polish as required, while mild steel models receive one coat of red oxide and two coats of epoxy paint.
Discharge can be manual (hand-wheel operated) or automatic (hydraulic operated). Additional options include an automatic valve discharge system or a screw/extruder system for controlled product removal. Tilting of the container is also possible.
Yes. A jacket for heating or cooling applications can be provided, along with mineral wool insulation and cladding. Optional blade cooling arrangements help manage heat buildup, especially with viscous or abrasive compounds.
In the tangential design (preferred for higher-viscosity materials such as adhesives, rubber compounds, dyes, and pigments), the blades meet tangentially and typically rotate at different speeds (often a 3:2 ratio). In the overlapping design (suited to lighter-viscosity materials such as creams, ointments, and carbon pastes), the blades overlap and rotate at the same speed, offering faster material interchange but lower kneading and shearing action.
Models range from ASM-50 (approx. 50 liters working / 80 liters gross) to ASM-3000 (approx. 3000 liters working / 3800 liters gross). Motor power varies by model and duty rating (general or heavy-duty), and voltage can be adjusted to meet local power requirements.
