Pilot Scale Tablet Press Machine

Description

Pilot Scale Tablet Press Machine are specialized equipment used in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and chemical industries for small to medium-batch production. They bridge the gap between laboratory-scale research and full commercial manufacturing, allowing for process validation, formulation testing, and scale-up trials while adhering to cGMP standards. Tablet Press Machine compress powder or granule formulations into tablets of various shapes, sizes, and layers. They are typically rotary or single-punch designs, offering outputs from a few thousand to over 100,000 tablets per hour, making them ideal for R&D, clinical trials, and pilot production runs.

Working Principle of Pilot Scale Tablet Press Machine

Pre-compression is available to expel air trapped within the material in the die and to pre-densify the material prior to passing through the main compression rolls. This feature improves the quality of the product. Spacious compression zone with acrylic guards gives a convenient access for cleaning purpose. Lower punch scraper seals prevent material passing through the lower punch guides into cam tracks. Ejection of excess powder reduced by proper selection of adjustment cam. Suction needle provided for clear dust particles during compression Process.

Key Advantages of Pilot Scale Tablet Press Machine

  • Design and Operation: Fully or semi-automatic rotary presses with interchangeable turrets (e.g., 20D, 24B, or 30BB tooling). They support pre-compression for uniform density and can handle dry granulation or direct compression.

  • Control Systems: PLC with HMI touch screens (e.g., 6–15 inches) for real-time monitoring of parameters like compaction force, tablet weight, thickness, and hardness. Many include SCADA integration for data recording and alarm logs.

  • Versatility: Capable of producing mono-layer, bi-layer, or multi-layer tablets; some models accommodate dummy dies for trials with expensive materials.

  • Safety and Compliance: Hydraulic overload protection (HOS), nickel-plated components for durability, and cGMP-compliant designs for easy validation.

  • Output Capacity: Typically 1,000–144,000 tablets/hour, depending on turret stations and material properties.

FAQ for Pilot Scale Tablet Press Machine

Key features include a cGMP-compliant design, motorized operation with hand wheel for settings, stainless steel covering on moving parts, easy removal of parts for cleaning and autoclaving, compact footprint with external hopper, and suitability for round, oval, and caplet-shaped tablets. It offers low maintenance, pre-compression capability, and spacious compression zones with safety guards.

Available models include TPM-8D and TPM-8DB with 8 stations. Production output ranges up to 21,000 tablets per hour (TPM-8D) and 6,500–12,000 tablets per hour (TPM-8DB). Max compression force is 8 Tons / 6 Tons, max tablet diameter up to 23mm, max fill depth up to 20mm, and it is powered by a 2 H.P. motor. Compact dimensions are approx. 750mm (L) x 650mm (W) x 1200mm (H).

Powder or granules are fed into the die cavity. Pre-compression expels trapped air and densifies the material, followed by main compression to form uniform tablets. The machine includes lower punch scraper seals, adjustment cams to reduce excess powder ejection, and suction needles for dust removal. This ensures high tablet quality with consistent weight, hardness, and density.

It is cost-effective for low-volume runs, reduces material waste during trials, ensures consistent quality with automated controls, and supports regulatory compliance. Additional benefits include versatility for mono/bi-layer tablets, PLC/HMI controls for precise monitoring, safety features like hydraulic overload protection, and smooth transition from R&D to production-scale manufacturing.
