Automatic Ampoule Labeler

Description

The Automatic Ampoule Labeler is a specialized pharmaceutical packaging machine engineered for high-speed, accurate application of self-adhesive stickers and labels on small, delicate cylindrical containers. It is widely used for labeling glass ampoules, vials, syringes, test tubes, eye drop bottles, and other unstable or non-standing items that cannot travel easily on standard conveyor belts. This advanced equipment has become essential in the pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, and allied industries for maintaining strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) compliance, ensuring product traceability, and optimizing production efficiency.

In today’s highly regulated pharmaceutical landscape, the automatic ampoule labeler plays a critical role in accurate product identification. It applies essential information such as batch numbers, manufacturing and expiry dates, dosage instructions, barcodes, and serialization data with pinpoint precision. By minimizing manual handling, these machines significantly reduce the risk of breakage for fragile glass items and lower the chances of contamination in sterile environments — key concerns in Small Volume Parenteral (SVP) production.

Working Principle of Automatic Ampoule Labeler

Ampoules are loaded onto infeed hopper of the machine from where it is delivered to the feedworm. Feed worm rotates ampoule and during its operation transfer the ampoules to the Starwheel. The Starhweel is having rollers of same diameter as of ampoule body diameter. Starwheel transfer ampoules to the labeling station where ampoule picks label one by one and further moves towards pressing unit. Pressing Unit equipped with rubber belt for proper placing the labels. During movement of ampoules from pressing belt ampoules get labeled.

Duly labeled ampoules get collected on Outfeed Collection Tray for further operation. In case of printing unit opted labels will be printed with printing device before applying onto ampoules. There are encoders installed which sense gap between two labels and accordingly provide signals to print data onto labels.

Applications of Sticker Labeling Machine

Advantages of Automatic Ampoule Labeler

Efficiency: Reduces downtime with auto-detection and high throughput, saving labor and costs.

Precision: Ensures 100% label accuracy, critical for patient safety in injectables.

Versatility: Adaptable for pharma (e.g., vaccines, eye drops) or non-pharma uses.

Maintenance: Minimal, with robust construction and overseas service support from manufacturers.

Key Features of Automatic Ampoule Labeler

  • Feeding and Handling System: Ampoules are loaded via an infeed hopper or tray, advanced by a feed worm or screw mechanism to a rotary starwheel with rollers matching the ampoule diameter. This ensures smooth, vertical or horizontal transfer without inversion or breakage. Some models include tray-based collection for labeled products to maintain vertical orientation.

  • Label Dispensing: Microprocessor-controlled sensors detect label gaps and container positions, enabling automatic length detection—no manual data entry needed. Supports various label types: paper, transparent, BOPP, or self-adhesive stickers.

  • Application Mechanism: Labels are applied via a pressing belt, pad, or roller system for partial, full wrap-around, or overlap labeling. Servo motors ensure precise alignment, with options for online batch printing (e.g., manufacturing dates).

  • Speed and Control: Variable AC frequency drives allow adjustable speeds. Bottle detection sensors decelerate during low supply and accelerate post-feeding to optimize flow and reduce labor.

  • Quality Assurance: Integrated vision systems (OCV/OCR) for barcode scanning, print verification, and defect detection. Automatic rejection units divert mislabeled or unlabeled ampoules to recovery boxes for reuse.

  • Safety and Compliance: CE-certified, constructed from 304/316 stainless steel for corrosion resistance. Features like label roll empty alarms, missing label stops, and ergonomic designs meet GMP and ergonomic guidelines.

  • Customization Options: Pneumatic rejection, camera-based inspection, or integration with filling lines. Horizontal models (e.g., for super glue bottles or batteries) handle non-pharma variants.

FAQ for Automatic Ampoule Labeler

The machine is offered in three models to suit different production scales:

  • AASL-120: Up to 120 ampoules per minute
  • AASL-300: Up to 300 ampoules per minute
  • AASL-600: Up to 600 ampoules per minute

These options support both medium and high-volume pharmaceutical manufacturing.

It accommodates ampoules with:

  • Diameter: 10mm to 18mm
  • Height: 50mm to 105mm

Label specifications include lengths of 20–50mm and widths of 15–60mm (self-adhesive sticker labels), with a label roll core diameter of 75–76mm. It also works with similar cylindrical containers.

Ampoules are loaded into an infeed hopper and transferred via a feed worm to a starwheel. The starwheel moves them to the labeling station, where each ampoule picks up a label. A secondary pressing unit with a rubber belt ensures secure adhesion. Labeled ampoules are collected on an outfeed tray. Optional printing devices can add variable data (e.g., batch numbers and dates) before application.

  • Compact GMP model with stainless steel construction
  • “No Ampoule – No Label” system
  • Inbuilt touch screen HMI and PLC controls
  • Variable AC frequency drive for speed adjustment
  • Secondary pressing unit for excellent label adhesion
  • Imported sensors, gear motors, and optional vision systems for print/barcode verification
  • Printing device integration for batch/mfg. date details
