Sigma Mixer Machine

Description

A Sigma Mixer Machine, also widely known as a Sigma Kneader, Z-Blade Mixer, or Double Arm Kneader, is a robust industrial mixing equipment engineered specifically for handling high-viscosity, sticky, and semi-solid materials. This powerful machine delivers exceptional performance in mixing, kneading, and blending tough substances that standard mixers cannot process effectively. From food doughs and pharmaceutical pastes to rubber compounds, adhesives, and specialty chemicals, the Sigma Mixer ensures uniform consistency, superior product quality, and efficient production.

The Sigma Mixer Machine features two counter-rotating sigma-shaped (Z-shaped) blades mounted on parallel shafts. These blades move in a tangential or overlapping manner inside a heavy-duty mixing chamber, creating intense shearing, folding, and kneading action. This unique design is ideal for materials with viscosities ranging from thousands to millions of centipoise. The machine operates at both atmospheric and vacuum conditions, making it versatile for various processing needs.

Built with high-grade stainless steel or carbon steel, modern Sigma Kneaders come with jacketed bowls for heating or cooling, variable speed drives, hydraulic tilting mechanisms for easy discharge, and advanced PLC controls for precise operation. These features make the Z-Blade Mixer one of the most reliable choices for industries demanding consistent results.

Working Principle of Sigma Mixer Machine

Operational Kinematics & Thermal Automation

  • Differential Counter-Rotation: Twin Sigma (‘Z’) geometry impellers revolve in synchronization at precise, unequal speeds toward one another, continuously conveying media longitudinally through an intricate cycle of mass displacement, elongation, folding, splitting, and re-fusion.
  • Agglomerate Breakdown: Solid particle reduction is driven by intensive shear stress, tearing friction, and mechanical tearing created as the substance rubs against the moving blades and interior chamber boundaries.
  • Automated Thermal Transitions: Once the mandatory batch sterilization timeframe concludes, the heating circuit powers down, the pneumatic exhaust vent opens automatically, and the chilling sequence initiates.

Product Evacuation Pathways

Completed batches can be unloaded through three distinct ejection methods:

  • Tilting the entire mixing trough
  • Draining via bottom-situated dump valves
  • Extruding through a lateral side-mounted screw mechanism

Rotor Geometries & Viscosity Matrix

Tangential Blade Layout

  • Operational Setup: Non-intersecting rotors revolving adjacently at unequal velocities, typically maintaining a 3:2 speed proportion (with the lead blade traveling faster than the rear).
  • Ideal Applications: Heavy, high-viscosity formulations including industrial adhesives, heavy rubberized compounds, flush colors, chemical dyes, and dense pigments.

Overlapping Blade Layout

  • Operational Setup: Blades that cross paths directly above the central vessel ridge, requiring absolute phase synchronization and matching rotational speeds to accelerate cross-compartment transfer.
  • Ideal Applications: Free-flowing, fluid, or creeping substances such as carbon pastes, ceramic clay coatings, cosmetic creams, and pharmaceutical ointments.
  • Shear Characteristic: Yields a significantly milder kneading and tearing intensity relative to the tangential configuration.

FAQ for Sigma Mixer Machine

The machine operates using tangential or overlapping ‘Z’ type sigma blades that rotate at different speeds (typically 3:2 ratio in tangential design) toward each other. This creates bulk movement, stretching, folding, dividing, and recombining of the material, along with shearing against the trough walls for size reduction. Discharge occurs via tilting the container, bottom valves, or an extrusion screw.

It is widely used in the Pharmaceutical, Nutraceutical, Herbal, Ayurvedic, Biotech, Cosmetic, and Chemical industries for mixing high-viscosity materials such as ointments, creams, adhesives, rubber compounds, dyes, pigments, and specialty pastes.

The Sigma Mixer is ideal for materials with viscosities ranging from thousands to millions of centipoise. It excels with sticky, semi-solid, and high-viscosity products that standard mixers cannot process effectively.

  • Available in SS 316, SS 304, or Mild Steel construction with matt/mirror polish or epoxy paint finishes.
  • Jacketed bowl for heating/cooling with mineral wool insulation.
  • Tangential ‘Z’ blades for uniform mixing.
  • PTFE shaft sealing for food-grade compatibility.
  • Manual or hydraulic discharge options.
  • Minimum gap design to prevent product sticking.
  • Optional spray, vacuum, and other systems.

Models range from ASM-50 (50L working / 80L gross) to ASM-3000 (3000L working / 3800L gross). Motor power varies from 5 HP (general) / 7.5 HP (heavy duty) for smaller models up to 100 HP / 120 HP for larger ones. Power voltage can be customized.

Tangential blades (front blade faster, 3:2 ratio) suit higher-viscosity materials like adhesives and rubber. Overlapping blades (same speed) provide faster material interchange and are better for lighter viscosities like creams, ointments, and carbon pastes, though with lower kneading/shearing intensity.

Options include Liquid Spray System, Vacuum System, Screw System, Blades Cooling Arrangement, Automatic Valve Discharge System, variable speed drives (VFD), different sealing materials, and custom heating/cooling jackets.

Yes. Customization options include material of construction, trough thickness (3mm to 30mm), motor HP (1.5 to 250 HP), fixed/variable speeds, discharge methods, heating/cooling systems, sealing types, finishes, and feeding mechanisms to meet specific application needs.

It features high-grade stainless steel construction, PTFE/silicon seals for food compatibility, easy-to-clean designs with minimal product stagnation gaps, mirror polish options, and compliance-friendly features like jacketed bowls and hydraulic tilting for hygienic, efficient production.
