It is a heavy-duty industrial mixing machine (also known as a Sigma Blade Mixer, Z-Blade Mixer, or Double Arm Kneader) designed for uniform blending, kneading, and dispersing of dry metal powders, metal-filled compounds, and abrasive pastes used in powder metallurgy, sintering, and specialized manufacturing.
It handles iron powder, aluminum powder, copper powder, and other metal-based formulations, as well as high-viscosity, sticky, pasty, and abrasive materials that form dense or challenging mixtures.
The mixer is available in Stainless Steel 316, Stainless Steel 304, or Mild Steel. Stainless steel can be finished to matt or mirror polish per customer requirements, while mild steel receives one coat of red oxide and two coats of epoxy paint.
Tangential “Z”-type (sigma) blades rotate toward each other at different speeds (typically a 3:2 ratio), transferring material from one end of the trough to the other. This creates bulk movement, stretching, folding, dividing, recombining, shearing, and tearing against the blades and side walls for homogenization and size reduction of solids.
Tangential blades meet at the edges, rotate at different speeds, and deliver stronger kneading and shearing—ideal for higher-viscosity and abrasive materials such as metal powder compounds. Overlapping blades rotate at the same speed for faster material interchange and suit lower-viscosity materials with less intense kneading. Tangential design is generally preferred for metal powder applications.
Models range from ASM-50 (approx. 50 L working / 80 L gross capacity, 5–7.5 HP) to ASM-3000 (approx. 3000 L working / 3800 L gross capacity, 100–120 HP). Both general and heavy-duty motor options are available, and power voltage can be adjusted to local requirements.
Discharge can be performed by hand-wheel (manual) or hydraulic (automatic) tilting of the container, through bottom valves, or via an extrusion screw located beside the container.
Yes. A jacket for heating or cooling (with mineral wool insulation and cladding) is available. Optional features include liquid spray systems, vacuum systems (to reduce air entrapment or dust), and blades cooling arrangements.
A minimum gap between the trough inner shell and the blades reduces sticking. PTFE shaft sealing is provided for compatibility, and the U-/W-shaped trough with counter-rotating sigma blades (close clearances of ~2 mm) minimizes dead zones while delivering high shear for breaking agglomerates and achieving high homogeneity.
Optional features include a liquid spray system, vacuum system, blades cooling arrangement, screw system, and automatic valve discharge system, along with hardened blades for abrasive materials and jackets for precise temperature control.
