It is a specialized industrial sigma kneader (also called a Z-blade kneader or double sigma arm mixer) designed for processing high-viscosity gum base along with flavors, sweeteners, and softeners. It produces uniform, high-quality chewing gum, bubble gum, and specialty variants through intense shearing, kneading, and folding action.
Two counter-rotating Z-shaped (sigma) blades mounted in a U-shaped trough spin at differential speeds. This creates continuous mass displacement, elongation, folding, splitting, and re-fusion, while intensive shear breaks down agglomerates against the blades and trough walls for thorough, homogeneous mixing.
The machine is built from robust options including SS 304, high-grade SS 316, or carbon steel. Stainless steel versions can be polished to a satin brushed or mirror finish. Mild steel structures receive a red oxide primer plus two layers of epoxy paint for corrosion protection. PTFE shaft packings ensure food-grade hygiene and safety.
Models range from ASM-50 (approx. 50 L working / 80 L gross capacity, 5–7.5 HP) up to ASM-3000 (approx. 3000 L working / 3800 L gross capacity, 100–120 HP). Both general and heavy-duty motor ratings are available, and voltage can be customized to local power requirements.
Optional temperature-regulation jackets allow external heating or chilling. Outer jackets are insulated with mineral wool and clad in protective metal sheeting. Automated sequences can switch from heating to chilling after the required process time, with pneumatic exhaust venting. Blade cooling arrangements are also available.
Finished batches can be unloaded by tilting the entire mixing trough (manual hand-wheel or automated hydraulic), draining through bottom dump valves, or extruding via a lateral side-mounted screw mechanism. An automatic valve discharge system is offered as an option.
Tangential blades (non-intersecting, typically running at a 3:2 speed ratio) deliver intensive kneading ideal for heavy, high-viscosity materials such as gum base. Overlapping blades rotate at matched speeds for milder shear and are better suited to freer-flowing or lower-viscosity products.
Available options include liquid atomization spray systems, hermetically sealed vacuum chambers (for air/bubble removal), blade cooling arrangements, screw extruder systems, automatic valve discharge, and designs with micro-tolerances between blades and trough walls to eliminate dead zones and residue.
