Drum Mixer Agitator

Drum Mixer Agitator

A Drum Mixer Agitator (often called a drum mixer or barrel agitator) is an industrial device designed to mix, blend, or agitate liquids and suspensions inside standard drums, typically 55-gallon barrels. It prevents settling of solids, ensures homogeneity, and maintains product consistency. These are widely used in industries like chemicals, pharmaceuticals, paints, food processing, oils, and coatings to re-suspend settled materials or blend viscous fluids without transferring contents to a separate tank.

Key Features include:

  • A motor (electric or pneumatic/air-powered for safety in flammable environments).

  • A shaft with impellers (propellers, folding blades, or helical designs).

  • Mounting options to fit closed or open drums.

They are portable, efficient for in-drum mixing, and help reduce waste and splashing.

Common Types of Drum Mixer Agitators

  • Bung-Mount: Threads into the 2″ NPT bung opening on closed drums; often with collapsible/folding impellers that expand inside.

  • Lid/Cover-Mount: Mounts on a drum lid for reduced splashing; suitable for open or sealed setups.

  • Clamp/Bracket-Mount: Clamps to the rim of open drums; portable and adjustable.

  • Rotary/Tumbler: Rotates or tumbles the entire drum (less common for agitators).
