The blades overlap or tangentally rotate at differential speeds, providing intense kneading, folding, and shearing action with close clearances to the vessel walls (typically 2-3 mm). This ensures thorough homogenization without dead zones, making it ideal for pasty, gritty, or ultra-high viscosity slurries.
These mixers are batch-type machines available in lab-scale to large production sizes (e.g., 5-1000+ liters), often constructed from stainless steel for sanitary or corrosive applications. For two-component adhesives, disposable static mixers (nozzles) are sometimes used for inline dispensing, but they are better for lower-volume or fluid systems rather than bulk stiff pastes.

The mixer is offered in Stainless Steel 316, Stainless Steel 304, and Mild Steel. Stainless steel versions can be polished to a matt or mirror finish as required, while Mild Steel models receive one coat of red oxide followed by two coats of epoxy paint.
Discharge can be manual (hand-wheel operated) or hydraulic (automatic). Additional options include bottom valves, tilting the container, or an extrusion screw system for efficient removal of ultra-viscous materials with minimal residue.
A jacket for heating or cooling can be fitted, complete with mineral wool insulation and cladding. Optional blade cooling arrangements further help manage temperature-sensitive formulations of pastes and adhesives.
In the tangential design (preferred for high-viscosity materials like adhesives), the blades meet tangentially with the front blade rotating faster, delivering strong kneading and shearing. Overlapping blades rotate at the same speed and are better suited to lighter viscosities, offering faster material interchange with lower shear.
Models range from ASM-50 (approx. 50 L working / 80 L gross capacity, 5 HP general or 7.5 HP heavy duty) up to ASM-3000 (approx. 3000 L working / 3800 L gross capacity, 100 HP general or 120 HP heavy duty). Power voltage can be adjusted to local requirements.
