
The Z Type Sigma Mixer, also widely known as Z-Blade Sigma Mixer, Double Arm Sigma Kneader, or simply Sigma Mixer, is a heavy-duty industrial batch mixer engineered for handling challenging materials. Unlike conventional mixers that struggle with thick substances, this robust machine excels at processing high-viscosity, sticky, dough-like, and paste-like materials with exceptional efficiency. Industries requiring uniform blending of tough compounds rely on the sigma kneader for consistent, high-quality results every time.
At the heart of the Z Type Sigma Mixer are two counter-rotating Z-shaped (Sigma-shaped) blades mounted within a specially designed U-shaped or W-shaped trough. These sigma blades rotate toward each other, either at identical speeds or with differential speeds, generating powerful mechanical actions including intense kneading, folding, stretching, and shearing.
This unique blade configuration creates a highly effective mixing zone that eliminates dead spots. The material is continuously pulled, compressed, and turned over, ensuring complete homogenization even with the most viscous formulations. The design allows operators to achieve thorough dispersion of ingredients, making the Double Arm Sigma Kneader ideal for applications where consistency and quality are non-negotiable.

The Z Type Sigma Mixer (also known as Z-Blade Sigma Mixer or Double Arm Sigma Kneader) is a heavy-duty batch mixer designed specifically for high-viscosity, sticky, dough-like, and paste-like materials. Unlike conventional mixers, its two counter-rotating Z-shaped (Sigma) blades in a U- or W-shaped trough provide intense kneading, folding, stretching, and shearing, eliminating dead spots for superior homogenization.
The mixer uses tangential or overlapping ‘Z’ type blades that rotate toward each other (often at differential speeds, e.g., 3:2 ratio in tangential designs). This creates bulk movement, stretching, folding, dividing, recombining, and shearing actions against the trough walls, transferring material from one end to the other while reducing solid particle size for uniform blending.
It excels with high-viscosity formulations such as dense pastes, creams, ointments, adhesives, rubber compounds, flush colors, dyes, pigments, carbon pastes, clay coatings, and specialty chemicals. It is widely used in Pharmaceutical, Nutraceutical, Herbal, Ayurvedic, Biotech, Cosmetic, and Chemical industries.
Models range from ASM-50 (50L working / 80L gross) to ASM-3000 (3000L working / 3800L gross). Motor power starts at 5 HP (general) / 7.5 HP (heavy duty) for smaller units and goes up to 100 HP / 120 HP for larger ones, with customization available up to 250 HP and support for various power voltages.
The trough can be jacketed for heating (steam, hot oil, hot water, or electric) or cooling (chilled water circulation). Mineral wool insulation with cladding is available for energy efficiency. Optional cored blades and blades cooling arrangements provide additional temperature control for sensitive materials.
Discharge options include manual hand-wheel tilting, hydraulic automatic tilting, bottom valves, extrusion screw systems, and automatic valve discharge. These are designed to handle viscous products smoothly and minimize waste.
Key options include Liquid Spray System, Vacuum System, Screw System (feeding/discharge), Blades Cooling Arrangement, Automatic Valve Discharge, variable speed drives (VFD), overload protection, and custom sealing (PTFE for food-grade use).
It features high-grade Stainless Steel 304/316 construction with matt/mirror polish, PTFE/silicon shaft seals, minimal gap between trough and blades to prevent sticking, smooth surfaces for easy cleaning, and jacketed temperature control—making it suitable for regulated pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and food applications.
Highly customizable in trough thickness, motor HP (1.5–250 HP), blade types, discharge methods, heating/cooling systems, feeding mechanisms, sealing materials, finishes (matt/mirror or epoxy paint), and voltage configurations. This allows tailoring to diverse viscosities, batch sizes, and regulatory requirements.
