A 2 Cubic Feet EO Gas Sterilizer is a compact, low-temperature sterilization device designed for heat- and moisture-sensitive medical equipment, supplies, and devices. It uses ethylene oxide gas—a colorless, flammable gas that penetrates packaging and kills microorganisms by alkylating their DNA—mixed with an inert gas like CO₂ or nitrogen to reduce explosion risks. This size is ideal for small-scale operations, such as clinics, laboratories, dental offices, or veterinary facilities, where space and load volume are limited.

EO Gas Sterilizer are FDA-cleared for terminal sterilization, achieving a sterility assurance level (SAL) of 10⁻⁶. Cycle times typically range from 3–5 hours, including preconditioning, gas exposure, and aeration to remove residual EO.

Key Features and Process

• Chamber Construction: Usually double-walled stainless steel with insulation for safety and efficiency. Includes controls for vacuum evacuation, gas injection, aeration, and exhaust.

• Typical Cycle Phases:

  1. Air Removal: Vacuum pump eliminates air to prevent flammability.

  2. Conditioning: Humidification and heating (around 30–60°C) to optimize EO penetration.

  3. EO Exposure: Gas injection (e.g., 10–20% EO mixture) for 1–2 hours dwell.

  4. Aeration/Purge: Fresh air flush to remove EO residues, often with active aeration for faster off-gassing.

• Safety Features: Explosion-proof design, leak detectors, automatic shutoffs, and compliance with standards like ATEX and ISO 11135.

• Load Capacity: Suitable for items like syringes, catheters, sutures, endoscopes, pacemakers, or small batches of plastics/bandages. Wrapped loads can have a shelf life of 3+ months.

Types of EO Gas Sterilizers
