An EO Sterilizer Machine, also known as an Ethylene Oxide Sterilizer, is a specialized device used for sterilizing heat-sensitive and moisture-intolerant medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, spices, and other materials that cannot withstand traditional methods like steam autoclaving or dry heat. EO gas is a powerful alkylating agent that penetrates packaging and disrupts microbial reproduction, achieving a high sterility assurance level (SAL) of 10⁻⁶. The process is low-temperature (typically 80–150°F) and environmentally controlled, making it ideal for delicate items like endoscopes, catheters, and multi-lumen devices.

The sterilization cycle typically involves four phases:

Preconditioning: Conditioning the load to optimize gas penetration.

Exhaust: Removing residual gas from the chamber.

Aeration: Degassing the load in a separate area to remove EO residues below safe limits.
How Does It Work?
EO sterilizers use a sealed chamber where items are placed in breathable packaging. The machine injects a microdose of EO gas (often mixed with inert gases like CO₂ or nitrogen for safety). Vacuum and pressure cycles ensure even distribution. Built-in sensors monitor parameters in real-time, with traceability features for batch reporting. Aeration can take hours to days, often in dedicated chambers. Advanced models use flexible chamber technology to minimize gas usage and reduce environmental impact.

Types of EO Gas Sterilizers
