It is commonly used for spices, herbs, dried fruits, seasonings, gums, starches, nutmeats, dehydrated vegetables, and food packaging materials. These items benefit from deep gas penetration into porous loads without damage from heat or moisture.
ETO sterilization works at low temperatures (around 50°C) in a dry process, making it ideal for products that cannot tolerate high heat or moisture. It preserves the natural flavor, color, aroma, and nutritional value while effectively reducing microbial load and extending shelf life.
A typical complete cycle averages about 8 hours, though the full process (including pre-conditioning, sterilization, and aeration) can range from 4 to 12 hours depending on load size and product complexity. The gas exposure phase itself usually lasts 1–6 hours.
