Automatic Linear Vial Washer

Automatic Linear Vial Washer

An Automatic Linear Vial Washer is a specialized pharmaceutical processing machine designed for the efficient, high-volume cleaning and decontamination of glass vials used in injectable drug production. It operates on a linear conveyor system (often tunnel-type), transporting vials through multiple washing stations to remove contaminants, particles, and residues from both interior and exterior surfaces, ensuring sterility and compliance with cGMP and FDA standards. Unlike rotary models, the linear design optimizes space, supports continuous flow, making it ideal for integration into sterile filling lines.

Key Features and Components

  • Structure and Design: Compact stainless steel (SS 304/316L) frame with optional acrylic safety doors for visibility and protection. Includes an in-feed turntable or conveyor for automatic vial loading (neck-down orientation), indexing devices for precise positioning, and an out-feed conveyor for seamless transfer to drying/sterilizing tunnels.

  • Washing Mechanism: Equipped with 4–7 interchangeable stations featuring high-pressure jets/nozzles for water and air rinses. Vials are inverted for thorough cleaning of necks and interiors; recycled water loops reduce consumption while maintaining pyrogen reduction.

  • Automation and Controls: Fully or semi-automatic operation with PLC/HMI interfaces, servo-driven adjustments for repeatability, pneumatic components, pumps/tanks, and filters. Prevents vial breakage via spring-loaded levers and ensures no cross-contamination through segregated zones.

  • Output and Compatibility: Suitable for 2–30 ml round glass vials; speeds vary by model.

Working Process

  1. Loading: Vials enter via in-feed turntable, oriented neck-down on a SS wire mesh conveyor.

  2. Washing Cycle: Indexed through stations—initial rinse with filtered water, followed by multiple jets (internal/external) and air purges to dry and remove residues.

  3. Unloading: Clean vials are positively discharged (neck-up) to out-feed, minimizing drips and enabling direct connection to filling systems.

  4. Validation: Easily validated for consistent cleaning, with features like vacuum-assisted unloading for stability at high speeds.

Process Operation of Linear Vial Washer Machine

Vials pushed from in feed tray and then move on wire woven conveyor belt, which align the vial in correct position, to enter in to the carrier pocket with help of oscillating guide rails. Oscillating arm deliver the vial inside pocket in mouth down position over spraying nozzles. Multijet sprayers fixed at the top cause the total external and internal surface to be washed. To avoid any possible cross contamination between two different waters, each washing station is provided with an independent circuit. Carrier pocket is moving with indexing motion. When the baskets have completed their motion the needles are lifted. They penetrate the vials, spraying jets of water or compressed air then return down. The baskets movement then advances by one station. Each station of vials passes through the washing cycles selected. The duly washed vials then delivered to the out feed tray with neck opening upward and then automatically re ordered to sterilizing tunnel with back pressure.
