An Automatic Ampoule Inspection Machine is a specialized piece of pharmaceutical equipment designed to inspect sealed glass ampoules containing injectable liquids for defects and contaminants. It ensures product quality and patient safety by detecting issues after filling and sealing, complying with strict regulatory standards like cGMP and FDA guidelines.

Key Purposes and Defects Detected
Ampoule Inspection Machine primarily inspect for:
-
Particulate matter: Floating particles (e.g., glass chips, metal filings, fibers) in the liquid.
-
Fill volume/level inaccuracies: Over- or under-filling.
-
Cosmetic defects: Cracks, scratches, burnt spots on the ampoule tip, or sealing irregularities.
-
Other issues: Foreign bodies, leaks (in some models), or non-moving particles.
Working Principle
The machine operates using a combination of mechanical handling, optical technology, and machine vision:
-
Feeding: Ampoules are loaded onto a conveyor or hopper and transported via tracks.
-
Spinning: Ampoules are rapidly spun to create a vortex in the liquid, making floating particles visible and mobile.
-
Stopping and Inspection: Spinning stops abruptly; high-speed cameras capture multiple images under specialized lighting. Algorithms analyze for moving particles, static defects, and fill levels.
-
Double Check: Many models inspect each ampoule twice for accuracy.
-
Sorting: Defective ampoules are automatically rejected (via pneumatic or mechanical ejection, often with LED/buzzer confirmation); accepted ones proceed to collection trays.

Process Operation of Ampoule Inspection Machine
Ampoules are loaded on to an inspection table out of trays. The ampoules are manually pushed on to an inclined infeed conveyor belt of sufficiently large capacity. Ampoules are picked up by a starwheel and fed to a revolving inspection drum consisting of two spinning stations and two inspection stations. Two ampoules are inspected at a time at the inspection station 1. Its status is recorded. The same ampoules are again inspected at the next inspection station 2. The ampoules then exit the inspection drum and are picked up by a starwheel and transfered to a linear screw. A sorter automatically separates the good and bad ampoules into individual outfeed hoppers.
