A GMP Filter Press is a specialized filtration device designed to comply with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, primarily used in the pharmaceutical, food, and chemical industries for crystal-clear solid-liquid separation.
These presses ensure sanitary conditions, prevent contamination, and meet strict regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, EU GMP guidelines) by using high-grade materials and designs that allow easy cleaning and no secondary pollution.

Key Types and Designs
-
Sparkler Type (Horizontal Plate Filter Press): The most common GMP variant. It features a stainless steel (SS 304/316/316L) shell and top cover, with horizontally arranged disc-type filter plates, perforated screens, filter media (paper or cloth), and interlocking cups. The unfiltered liquid is pumped in, pressure builds to force filtrate through the media (down to 1 micron particles), and clear liquid exits via a central channel. Often called “Zero Hold-Up” for minimal liquid retention and full batch recovery.
-
Plate and Frame or Membrane Filter Press: Larger industrial versions with vertical plates, often automated (e.g., PLC-controlled plate shifting). These can include gasketed designs for zero leakage and stainless steel coating for corrosion resistance.
Features of GMP Compliance
-
Materials: All product-contact parts in sanitary-grade stainless steel to resist corrosion and facilitate sterilization.
-
Design: No dead zones, smooth surfaces, pressure-tight seals, easy disassembly for cleaning (CIP/SIP capable).
-
Benefits: Crystal-clear filtration, low loss, no leakage, scavenger plates for complete liquid removal, optional jackets for hot filtration, and pumps (centrifugal, gear, lobe) for transfer.
- Applications: Filtration of antibiotics, syrups, injectables, APIs, and other high-value liquids where purity is critical.

Process Operation of Filter Machine
The liquid is fed into the filter of the machine and it is done under positive pressure. Now, the liquid travels downwards and passes through the opening on the sides of filter plates. The filter media holds back foreign particles and enables only clear filtrate to go past the central channel. This central channel is made by interlocking pressure cups to the outlet. The filtration process continues until the cake holding capacity gets saturated or the filtrate rate gets way slower than it must be. This happens due to decreasing cake resistance.
Our meticulously designed filter press is cost-efficient. And you can bet on its efficiency – it helps save every precious drop.

- The flow rate is mentioned in terms of water with 5% activated carbon with filter media as polypropylene cloth.
- Filtration rated depends on viscosity of liquids, quality of filter pads and nature of sediments in liquid to be filtered.
