An Industrial Liquid Agitator (also known as an industrial mixer, stirrer, or tank agitator) is a mechanical device used to mix, blend, homogenize, or agitate liquids, often with solids or gases, in large tanks or vessels. It works by rotating an impeller (a set of blades) attached to a shaft, which imparts kinetic energy to the fluid, creating flow patterns like axial (down/up), radial (outward), or turbulent shear. This ensures uniformity, prevents settling, promotes heat transfer, or facilitates chemical reactions.

Key Components

  • Propeller Agitators: Axial flow, efficient for low-viscosity liquids; good for homogenization and heat transfer.

  • Turbine Agitators: Radial flow with flat or pitched blades; high shear for emulsions, dispersions, and gas-liquid mixing.

  • Paddle/Anchor Agitators: Slow-speed, close to tank walls; ideal for high-viscosity fluids and preventing settling.

  • Helical Ribbon Agitators: For very high-viscosity or pasty liquids; creates folding motion.
