Online Filter Press

A Online Filter Press is an industrial machine used for solid-liquid separation through pressure filtration. It pumps a slurry (mixture of solids and liquids) into chambers formed by filter plates, where pressure forces the liquid (filtrate) through filter cloths, leaving behind a dry solid cake.

How It Works

  1. Closing the Press — Hydraulic or manual systems clamp a series of filter plates together, creating sealed chambers lined with filter cloths.

  2. Filling — A pump feeds the slurry into the chambers under increasing pressure.

  3. Filtration — Liquid passes through the cloths and exits via ports, while solids build up as a cake in the chambers.

  4. Cake Drying (Optional) — Air or water may blow through to further dewater the cake.

  5. Opening and Discharge — Plates separate, and the dry cakes drop out for removal.

  6. Cycle Repeat — The process is batch-based, with cycles lasting 30 minutes to several hours depending on the material.

This results in very dry cakes (often 25–40% moisture or lower) and clear filtrate, making it efficient for dewatering.

Process Operation of Online Filter Press

The liquid is fed into the filter of the machine and it is done under positive pressure. Now, the liquid travels downwards and passes through the opening on the sides of filter plates. The filter media holds back foreign particles and enables only clear filtrate to go past the central channel. This central channel is made by interlocking pressure cups to the outlet. The filtration process continues until the cake holding capacity gets saturated or the filtrate rate gets way slower than it must be. This happens due to decreasing cake resistance.
