The Hot Melts Sigma Mixer, also known as a Sigma Blade Mixer, Z-Blade Mixer, Double Arm Kneader, or Sigma Kneader, is a heavy-duty industrial mixing machine specifically designed for mixing, kneading, and blending high-viscosity thermoplastic materials.
This specialized hot melt adhesive mixer is widely used for manufacturing hot melt adhesives (HMAs), hot melt glues, pressure-sensitive adhesives (HMPSAs), sealants, and adhesive tapes. It efficiently processes popular formulations including EVA-based hot melts, polyolefin, polyamide, and other thermoplastic adhesive compounds.
Whether you need a reliable mixer for hot melt adhesive production, sealant manufacturing, or pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes, a high-performance Hot Melts Sigma Mixer delivers superior compounding results, faster batch times, and excellent product homogeneity.
Hot melt adhesives involve blending ingredients such as styrenic block copolymers (SBC), tackifiers, mineral oils, antioxidants, resins, and waxes. These materials become extremely viscous when melted (often over 500,000 cps), requiring intense shearing, kneading, stretching, and folding actions to achieve uniform mixing without dead spots.
The process typically involves:

It is a heavy-duty industrial mixing machine (also known as a Sigma Blade Mixer, Z-Blade Mixer, Double Arm Kneader, or Sigma Kneader) specifically designed for mixing, kneading, and blending high-viscosity thermoplastic materials. It is widely used for manufacturing hot melt adhesives (HMAs), hot melt glues, pressure-sensitive adhesives (HMPSAs), sealants, and adhesive tapes, efficiently processing formulations such as EVA-based hot melts, polyolefin, polyamide, and other thermoplastic adhesive compounds.
The mixer is available in Stainless Steel 316, Stainless Steel 304, and Mild Steel. Stainless steel versions can be finished to matt or mirror polish according to customer requirements, while mild steel receives one coat of red oxide and two coats of epoxy paint.
Tangential “Z”-type (sigma) blades rotate toward each other at different speeds (typically a 3:2 ratio), transferring material from one end of the trough to the other. This creates a combination of bulk movement, stretching, folding, dividing, recombining, shearing, and tearing against the blades and side walls, delivering uniform mixing and size reduction ideal for high-viscosity adhesives and thermoplastics.
Tangential blades meet at the edges, rotate at different speeds, and provide stronger kneading and shearing—preferred for higher-viscosity materials such as hot melt adhesives, rubber compounds, and similar products. Overlapping blades rotate at the same speed for faster material interchange and are better suited to lower-viscosity materials with less intense kneading.
Models range from ASM-50 (approximately 50 L working / 80 L gross capacity, 5–7.5 HP) to ASM-3000 (approximately 3000 L working / 3800 L gross capacity, 100–120 HP). Both general and heavy-duty motor options are available, and power voltage can be adjusted to meet local requirements.
Discharge can be performed by hand-wheel operated (manual) or hydraulic operated (automatic) tilting of the container, through bottom valves, or via an extrusion screw located beside the container.
Yes. A jacket for heating or cooling applications is available, complete with mineral wool insulation and cladding. Optional features also include blades cooling arrangements to maintain precise process temperatures for thermoplastic materials.
A minimum gap between the trough inner shell and the blades reduces the possibility of product sticking. PTFE shaft sealing is provided for compatibility, and the U- or W-shaped trough with counter-rotating sigma blades (close clearances of ~2 mm) minimizes dead zones while delivering high shear for breaking agglomerates and achieving excellent homogeneity.
Optional features include a liquid spray system, vacuum system (to reduce air entrapment), blades cooling arrangement, screw system, and automatic valve discharge system. These enhance process control for adhesive and sealant production.
It is used across the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, herbal, Ayurvedic, biotech, cosmetic, and chemical industries, particularly where high-viscosity thermoplastic adhesives, sealants, and related compounds need reliable compounding with superior homogeneity and faster batch times.
