PVC Coatings Kneader

Description

A PVC Coatings Kneader, also known as a Sigma Kneader, Double-Arm Kneader, or Z-Blade Mixer, is a specialized heavy-duty mixing machine designed for processing high-viscosity materials, including PVC-based coatings, plastisols, organosols, and various PVC compounds.

This robust industrial mixer excels at handling thick, sticky, and high-viscosity formulations that standard mixers cannot process effectively. With its powerful counter-rotating sigma blades, the PVC Coatings Kneader delivers intense shear, kneading, and dispersion action to achieve uniform blending, excellent pigment distribution, and consistent product quality.

Ideal for the production of PVC coatings, vinyl coatings, floor coverings, artificial leather, plastisol inks, and other PVC-based materials, this sigma mixer ensures superior homogeneity while improving processing efficiency and final product performance.

Working Principle of PVC Coatings Kneader

  • Agitator Kinematics & Axial Shifting: Dual ‘Z’-form (Sigma) mixing elements spin synchronously at precise differential velocities, producing a tangential wiping motion that continually conveys and redistributes the product from one side of the vessel to the other.

  • Batch Retrieval Mechanisms: Processed material can be emptied by tilting the mixing trough, opening bottom discharge valves, or forcing the mass through a parallel side-mounted extrusion screw.

  • Rheological Breakdown & Homogenization: The blending cycle integrates mass displacement, stretching, folding, splitting, and re-mixing. Simultaneously, intense frictional shear and tearing forces generated between the rotating paddles and internal housing walls effectively break down solid particle aggregates.

  • Automated Thermal Phase Shift: Once the preset batch sterilization time cycle concludes, the heating circuit automatically cuts off, the pneumatic exhaust flap opens, and the cooling sequence initiates.

  • Tangential Design Architecture: In this layout, the agitators rotate inside the trough while meeting tangentially—typically with the front blade operating at a faster 3:2 speed ratio relative to the rear. This high-torque arrangement is optimized for dense, heavy media such as adhesives, rubber polymers, pigment pastes, and dyes.

  • Overlapping Design Architecture: The agitators intersect directly above the central divider, requiring strict synchronization so both spin at identical speeds. This accelerates cross-transfer between compartments, making it ideal for fluid or creeping substances like cosmetic creams, pharmaceutical ointments, clay coatings, and carbon pastes while exerting lower shear and kneading forces.

Optional Features/Accessories of PVC Coatings Kneader

Excellent dispersion and homogenization for consistent coating quality.

Suitable for shear- and temperature-sensitive materials (low-shear options available).

Batch or continuous variants; often with vacuum, heating/cooling jackets, and extrusion discharge for efficient unloading.

Capacities range from lab-scale (5–100 kg) to industrial (500–1000+ liters).

Key Features of PVC Coatings Kneader

  • Design: It features a U- or W-shaped trough with two counter-rotating sigma (Z-shaped) blades that knead, fold, and shear the material intensely. The blades rotate at differential speeds to ensure thorough mixing without excessive heat buildup.

  • Purpose in PVC Coatings: Used to blend PVC resin with plasticizers, stabilizers, pigments, fillers, and additives to produce uniform, viscous pastes or compounds for applications like protective coatings, dipped goods, fabric coatings, or powder coatings. It excels at handling stiff, sticky, or high-viscosity formulations (up to millions of centipoise) common in PVC plastisols and organosols.

  • Related Types: For continuous PVC compounding (e.g., pelletizing for downstream coating production), reciprocating co-kneaders are used, providing mild shear and precise temperature control.

FAQ for PVC Coatings Kneader

Standard mixers struggle with high-viscosity, sticky materials. The PVC Coatings Kneader uses powerful counter-rotating sigma (Z-shaped) blades that create strong shearing, folding, stretching, and compression forces, ensuring thorough mixing, consistent quality, and better processing efficiency for PVC coatings, vinyl coatings, floor coverings, artificial leather, and plastisol inks.

Tangential ‘Z’-shaped (sigma) blades are typically used. They rotate toward each other at different speeds (usually a 3:2 ratio, front blade faster), transferring material from one end of the trough to the other. This produces bulk movement, stretching, folding, dividing, and recombining while shearing against the blades and side walls for even dispersion and size reduction of solids.

It is offered in Stainless Steel 316, Stainless Steel 304, or Mild Steel. Stainless-steel versions can be finished to a matt or mirror polish per customer requirements. Mild-steel units receive one coat of red oxide followed by two coats of epoxy paint.

Yes. An optional jacket for heating or cooling can be fitted, complete with mineral-wool insulation and cladding. This helps manage process temperatures for temperature-sensitive PVC formulations.

Discharge can be performed by hand-wheel (manual) or hydraulic (automatic) tilting of the container, through bottom valves, or via an extrusion screw beside the container—ideal for thick, sticky materials that do not flow easily.

PTFE shaft sealing is provided for food-grade compatibility. A minimum gap between the trough inner shell and the blades reduces the chance of product sticking, supporting cleaner operation and consistent batch quality.

Models range from ASM-50 (approx. 50 L working / 80 L gross capacity with 5 HP general or 7.5 HP heavy-duty motors) up to ASM-3000 (approx. 3000 L working / 3800 L gross capacity with 100 HP general or 120 HP heavy-duty motors). Voltage can be adjusted to local requirements.

Tangential blades (preferred for higher-viscosity materials such as PVC compounds, adhesives, and pigments) meet tangentially and run at different speeds for stronger kneading and shearing. Overlapping blades rotate at the same speed, suit lighter viscosities, and provide faster material interchange with lower shear.

Optional accessories include a liquid spray system, vacuum system (for degassing), screw discharge for continuous unloading, blade cooling arrangements, and automatic valve discharge—improving process control, homogeneity, and handling of extremely thick PVC materials.
