A PVC Coatings Kneader (also called a Sigma Kneader, Double-Arm Kneader, or Z-Blade Mixer) is a heavy-duty industrial mixer built for high-viscosity materials such as PVC-based coatings, plastisols, organosols, and other PVC compounds. It delivers intense shear, kneading, and dispersion to produce uniform blends with excellent pigment distribution.
Standard mixers struggle with high-viscosity, sticky materials. The PVC Coatings Kneader uses powerful counter-rotating sigma (Z-shaped) blades that create strong shearing, folding, stretching, and compression forces, ensuring thorough mixing, consistent quality, and better processing efficiency for PVC coatings, vinyl coatings, floor coverings, artificial leather, and plastisol inks.
Tangential ‘Z’-shaped (sigma) blades are typically used. They rotate toward each other at different speeds (usually a 3:2 ratio, front blade faster), transferring material from one end of the trough to the other. This produces bulk movement, stretching, folding, dividing, and recombining while shearing against the blades and side walls for even dispersion and size reduction of solids.
It is offered in Stainless Steel 316, Stainless Steel 304, or Mild Steel. Stainless-steel versions can be finished to a matt or mirror polish per customer requirements. Mild-steel units receive one coat of red oxide followed by two coats of epoxy paint.
Yes. An optional jacket for heating or cooling can be fitted, complete with mineral-wool insulation and cladding. This helps manage process temperatures for temperature-sensitive PVC formulations.
Discharge can be performed by hand-wheel (manual) or hydraulic (automatic) tilting of the container, through bottom valves, or via an extrusion screw beside the container—ideal for thick, sticky materials that do not flow easily.
PTFE shaft sealing is provided for food-grade compatibility. A minimum gap between the trough inner shell and the blades reduces the chance of product sticking, supporting cleaner operation and consistent batch quality.
Models range from ASM-50 (approx. 50 L working / 80 L gross capacity with 5 HP general or 7.5 HP heavy-duty motors) up to ASM-3000 (approx. 3000 L working / 3800 L gross capacity with 100 HP general or 120 HP heavy-duty motors). Voltage can be adjusted to local requirements.
Tangential blades (preferred for higher-viscosity materials such as PVC compounds, adhesives, and pigments) meet tangentially and run at different speeds for stronger kneading and shearing. Overlapping blades rotate at the same speed, suit lighter viscosities, and provide faster material interchange with lower shear.
Optional accessories include a liquid spray system, vacuum system (for degassing), screw discharge for continuous unloading, blade cooling arrangements, and automatic valve discharge—improving process control, homogeneity, and handling of extremely thick PVC materials.
