Pharma Cream Preparation Plant

Pharma Cream Preparation Plant

A Pharma Cream Preparation Plant refers to a specialized manufacturing setup used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries to produce semi-solid formulations such as ointments, creams, gels, lotions, toothpastes, and emulsions. These plants ensure high-quality, homogeneous products by minimizing manual handling, maintaining vacuum during mixing, and incorporating homogenization processes. They are designed for batch production, typically ranging from 20 kg to 2,000 kg per batch, and comply with GMP  standards for sterility and consistency.

These systems are essential for delivering active ingredients directly to the skin for treating conditions like rashes, irritations, fungal infections, or for cosmetic applications such as moisturizers and sunscreens.

Key Components of a Cream Preparation Plant

A typical plant includes the following integrated equipment:

Oil Phase Vessel: Heats and mixes oil-based ingredients with powders or flakes. Jacketed for temperature control.

Aqueous Phase Vessel: Prepares water-based phase by hydrating ingredients under controlled conditions to avoid contamination.

Main Manufacturing Vessel: Core mixer with high-shear homogenizer for emulsifying oil and water phases. Equipped with vacuum to reduce air incorporation and improve stability.

Storage Vessel: Jacketed, skid-mounted tank for holding finished product. Mobile with wheels for easy transfer.

Pumps and Filters: Transfer pumps, inline homogenizers, bag filters, and filter presses for smooth material flow and particle removal.

Control Panel: Centralized digital interface for temperature, timers, and process monitoring. Operable by one person.

CIP/SIP Connections: Clean-in-Place and Sterilize-in-Place systems for sanitation without disassembly.

Manufacturing Process

The production follows a structured emulsion-based method to achieve a stable, uniform cream:

  1. Oil Phase Preparation: Disperse flake or powder ingredients into oil using a high-shear mixer. Heat if needed to melt solids.

  2. Aqueous Phase Hydration: Dissolve water-soluble components in purified water, often with agitation to prevent clumping.

  3. Emulsion Formation: Under vacuum, slowly add the oil phase to the aqueous phase in the main vessel. High-shear mixing and homogenization break down particles for a smooth texture.

  4. Active Ingredient Dispersion: Incorporate APIs post-emulsion to maintain potency.

  5. Cooling and Storage: Cool the mixture while stirring, then transfer to storage for filling into tubes or jars.

This process minimizes vacuum drops and man-handling, ensuring product quality. Plants can handle both hot and cold processes for various viscosities.

Applications

  • Pharmaceuticals: Ointments, antibiotic creams, steroid gels, ophthalmic solutions.

  • Cosmetics: Cold creams, sunscreens, antiperspirants, shampoos, hair gels.

  • Other: Toothpastes, food emulsions, vaccines.

Benefits and Considerations

  • Efficiency: Reduces labor (one operator + helper) and production time while maximizing yield.

  • Scalability: Capacities from lab-scale (50L) to industrial (20,000L).

  • Customization: Adjustable for voltage, cGMP compliance, and integration with RO water systems or WFI (Water for Injection) distillation.

Salient Features of Cosmetic Pharma Cream Preparation Plant

  • The Plant is designed to be operated only by one operator and one helper.

  • All material transfers are done by vacuum or by transfer pumps.

  • All the vessels are cGMP (paint free construction).

  • The gaskets used are of silicon (food grade).

  • All contact parts are of S.S. 304 quality material (SS316 provided on demand) & finished to class 4B (Mirror) finish and are crevice free.

  • The entry of all agitators are from top & High Speed Emulsifier from bottom or In-line Emulsifier (as per customer choice).

  • All vessels are suitable for internal pressure of 1 Kg. / Sq. cm. and hence can be sterilized.

  • All pipes, pipe fittings and valves are of SS304 / SS316 (as per custom requirement) seamless quality, internally electro polished, with tri-clover ended joints.

  • The entire plant is equipped with CIP & SIP connections, so that customer can use these facility, if have CIP & SIP equipment.

  • All values of temperature & time of the plant are indicated digitally on the control panel.Ampere indicates on Ampere meters.

  • A microprocessor based automatic operating plant can be designed as per requirement.

  • All the inlet & outlet connections are provided with tri clover joints, which are very easy for cleaning & replacement.
