Pharmaceutical Multi Mill

A Pharmaceutical Multi Mill is a versatile, self-contained portable unit used for high-speed size reduction, granulating, pulverizing, mixing, shredding, and chopping of wet and dry materials in pharmaceutical manufacturing, particularly for processing granules and powders to achieve uniform particle sizes. It operates on the principle of variable force swing beaters with knife and impact edges rotating at high speeds within a selected screen to control particle reduction through impact, cutting, and sieving mechanisms.

Construction and Design

The multi mill features a compact, sturdy design compliant with cGMP standards, with all product-contact parts made from stainless steel for corrosion resistance, easy cleaning, and hygiene. Key components include:

• Beater assembly: Variable force swing beaters with knife/impact and scraper blades for versatile processing.

• Screen/sieve: Interchangeable perforated screens inside the hopper to regulate particle size output.

• Hopper and discharge: Hopper for feeding materials; discharge chute for collecting output, often with poly bag attachment.

• Drive system: Motor, gearbox, and V-belt/pulley for speeds of 720-2880 RPM; direction adjustable.

• Safety features: Transparent guard with interlocking system, castor wheels for mobility, and optional dust collection. Models range from lab-scale (1 HP) to production sizes, with noiseless, maintenance-free operation.

Working Principle

Materials are fed into the hopper, where high-speed rotating beaters impact and cut the particles inside a cylindrical sieve. Desired-size particles pass through the screen by impact in air, while larger ones are recirculated or retained for further reduction; output is collected at the discharge. Speed and screen size are adjusted for precise control, enabling wet/dry granulation and pulverization without special attachments.

• Size reduction of granules/lumps post-drying for tablet/capsule formulations, wet/dry granulation, and de-lumping in bulk drug processing.

Design and Construction of  Multi Mill Machine

Unit consists of S.S 316 AISI quality material rotor fitted with 8 Nos. SS blades knife/impact edge having swing action and 2 Nos. scrapper blades. Rotor assembly fitted on SS shaft with suitable bearing. Other end of the shaft directly coupled with suitable H.P./3 PHASE/415V/60CS/2800 RPM flange mounting type motor through love jaw coupling. The speed variation will be achieved through A.C. Frequency drive unit with selected 4 speeds of i.e., 2800RPM/2200RPM/1600RPM/800RPM.

S.S Charging hopper with slide plate arrangement to control the material feed rate. S.S Screen with hold plate is provided to get desired size of granules. S.S discharge hopper with necessary holding arrangement. Drive unit supported on S.S column with S.S base plate fitted with PU castor wheels to achieve portability.
