Lab Scale Multi Mill

Description

The Lab Scale Multi Mill is a compact, highly versatile milling machine engineered specifically for laboratory research, pilot-scale trials, and small-batch production. This multi-purpose laboratory mill delivers exceptional performance in particle size reduction, granulation, mixing, shredding, and pulverizing of both wet and dry materials. It has become an essential tool across various industries, including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, cosmetics, food processing, nutraceuticals, and herbal manufacturing.

In pharmaceutical R&D and formulation development, precise control over Particle Size Distribution (PSD) is crucial for product efficacy, bioavailability, flowability, and stability. The lab scale multi mill allows scientists and formulation experts to test and optimize materials efficiently before scaling up to commercial production. Its ability to produce consistent and repeatable results makes it ideal for pilot plant operations and process validation.

Working Principle of Lab Scale Multi Mill

  • Material Feeding: Raw material (wet/dry) is fed into the hopper.

  • Processing: High-speed rotating blades/rotors impact the material against a perforated screen, reducing size via shear, impact, and attrition.

  • Screening: Particles pass through customizable mesh screens (e.g., 0.2–5 mm apertures) for uniform output.

  • Discharge: Fines are collected below; oversize recirculated if needed.

  • Cleaning: Quick disassembly for GMP compliance.

Design and Construction of Lab Scale Multi Mill

Unit consists of S.S 316 AISI quality material rotor fitted with 8 Nos. SS blades knife/impact edge having swing action and 2 Nos. scrapper blades. Rotor assembly fitted on SS shaft with suitable bearing. Other end of the shaft directly coupled with suitable H.P./3 PHASE/415V/60CS/2800 RPM flange mounting type motor through love jaw coupling. The speed variation will be achieved through A.C. Frequency drive unit with selected 4 speeds of i.e., 2800RPM/2200RPM/1600RPM/800RPM.

S.S Charging hopper with slide plate arrangement to control the material feed rate. S.S Screen with hold plate is provided to get desired size of granules. S.S discharge hopper with necessary holding arrangement. Drive unit supported on S.S column with S.S base plate fitted with PU castor wheels to achieve portability.

FAQ for Lab Scale Multi Mill

It is suitable for the Pharmaceutical, Nutraceutical, Herbal/Ayurvedic, Biotech, Cosmetic, Chemical, and Food industries. It supports formulation development, process validation, and small-batch manufacturing where precise control over granule size and uniformity is essential.

The model (MM 75) offers an output of up to 75 kg/hour, depending on material properties, screen size, and rotor speed. It is ideal for R&D and pilot-scale operations rather than high-volume production.

  • Handles both wet and dry granules
  • All contact parts in SS304 (GMP model with SS cladding)
  • Portable on castor wheels
  • Reversible blade rotation direction
  • Wide range of perforated screens (0.5 to 12mm hole diameter)
  • Easy disassembly for cleaning and product changeover
  • 10 beaters (knife/impact edges) + 2 scrapper blades
  • Rated for continuous operation with process uniformity.

The machine offers variable speeds: 750 / 1500 / 2300 / 3000 RPM (or similar selectable speeds via frequency drive in some configurations). This allows optimization for different materials and desired particle sizes.

Raw material is fed into the hopper. High-speed rotating blades/rotors impact the material against a perforated screen using shear, impact, and attrition forces. Particles of the desired size pass through the screen and are collected, while larger particles are further processed. Quick disassembly supports GMP cleaning.

A wide range of SS perforated screens is available with hole diameters from 0.5mm to 12mm. Custom screens can be selected to achieve specific granule sizes and uniform output.

  • Rotor diameter: ~150 mm
  • Motor: 1 HP, 1440 RPM, 440V, 3 Phase, 50 Hz
  • Beaters: 12 knife/impact edges + 2 scrapper blades
  • Dimensions: ~870mm (L) x 965mm (W) x 1630mm (H)
  • Net weight: ~150 kg
  • Charging height: ~1250 mm.

Its compact size, portability, low material consumption, quick changeover, reversible rotation, and multiple speed/screen options allow precise experimentation and repeatable results. It bridges lab development and production-scale equipment effectively.
